Podcast & YouTube Update

Hello folks, Matt here. So, it’s been a little quiet and sporadic on the content front just lately. I wanted to give a quick heads’ up as to what’s been going on, and to assure you that more content is on its way very soon.

As some of you may be aware, earlier this year I left my job and began concentrating on GeekPlanetOnline and its content full time. I was able to do this for six months, during which time many of you voted with your wallets to keep the site and network going by supporting us on Patreon – something which Dave and I remain eternally and overwhelmingly grateful for. Unfortunately my personal funds ran out before we could make the site self-sufficient, meaning that I had to return to work in order to keep things going.

After two months of searching, applying, interviews and scouring agencies I managed to secure a temp-to-perm job which seemed to be the answer to my prayers, despite the lengthy commute (2.5 hours from home in each direction) and the fact that that commute was preventing me from working on the site and its content outside of weekends, and most of that was taken up with producing GPO Magazine, our main Patreon perk. Two weeks into that job, however, the member of staff that I was replacing changed their mind about leaving and, being in the temp part of the temp-to-perm contract, I was let go. It didn’t seem fair, but it was far from illegal.

So now I’m back to job-hunting again. Unfortunately in the two weeks that I was employed my postcode area was selected for rollout of the government’s new Universal Credit system, which replaces the old Jobseekers’ Allowance scheme and is a great deal more draconian. You can read about my experiences here, on my personal blog. The upshot of this is that I am now expected to spend 35 hours per week looking for work in order to qualify for my benefit payment, reducing the amount of time I have to spend on GeekPlanetOnline.

But that said, I’m aware that many of you have been paying for content via Patreon and should, quite rightly, expect to see some dividend. I’ll be working on some new video content this week – which will include a new episode of Tangential Recreation on Friday – and will be sorting out recording dates with Kim so that we can resume One More Go as soon as possible. I apologise for the slow pace over the past couple of months, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that things pick up again ASAP.

Thanks for your understanding and your patience.
